Kmart, Des Plaines, Illinois, My First time ever documenting a store via photos!

Here on Midwest Retail, we here have history! Today's blog is about the Kmart in Des Plaines. The history is that this was the first time I've ever documented via taking photos of a store. These photos were in July of 2017. Kmart #4214 opened on November 2, 1967 in the heart of Des Plaines, IL. Since it's the only major department store in Des Plaines, people shop here. Let's take a look at my very first documented store!

    This store isn't as safe as you think it is. Just because it's not directly in Des Plaines, doesn't mean that the Target which is only 1 1/2 miles away isn't going to draw from this Kmart, as it WILL draw people away, because that is not a far distance at all for people. They don't have to be located in the same city to have an affect. They just need to be nearby and this Target is definitely nearby.

      Yes Target is not too far but just because there close buy doesn't have to effect a Kmart's performance. The Norridge location was right across the street from a Target and a mall and that Kmart was one of there most profitable stores. Also I've seen this Kmart busy at 5PM on a Sunday which isn't a really busy time for Kmart but that shows they're doing well. Also, that Kmart is within a busy shopping area with numerous grocery stores in the immediate area as well.

    Told you Des Plaines would be affected by the Target, because look at that, Des Plaines Kmart CLOSING
